What is EMDR?
I am fully trained to deliver EMDR for PTSD. Sessions for EMDR usually last for 60-90 minutes.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) was developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987. It is a short-term therapy used to treat PTSD and has more recently been developed to treat other problems.
If follows an eight-stage process starting with assessment. EMDR helps the brain to process traumatic memories through bilateral stimulation in the form of eye movements (similar to REM sleep) or tapping. EMDR is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) as an effective treatment for PTSD.
EMDR is not a form of hypnosis clients remain fully alert and in control throughout treatment.
